Shopify Product Description Template (With Filled Examples)
Most product description templates are a list of blanks with no explanation of why the blanks are in that order. This one includes the reasoning, because the order is the part that actually matters.
Copy the structure below, then see it filled in twice at the bottom.
The Template
SEO TITLE (under 60 characters)
[Main search term] + [key differentiator] + [brand if it fits]
META DESCRIPTION (under 155 characters)
[Benefit the title didn't cover] + [specific detail: price, shipping, material] + [reason to click now]
ON-PAGE DESCRIPTION (150-300 words)
Sentence 1-2: What it is and who it's for, in plain language.
Sentence 3-5: The specifics — materials, dimensions, how it works.
Sentence 6-7: What makes it different from the obvious alternative.
BENEFIT BULLETS (5)
- [Action verb] + [outcome], enabled by [spec]
- [Action verb] + [outcome], enabled by [spec]
- [Action verb] + [outcome], enabled by [spec]
- [Compatibility or sizing fact]
- [Care, warranty, or ongoing-cost fact]
OBJECTION HANDLER (1-2 sentences)
Address the single most common hesitation for this product type.
ALT TEXT (per image, under 125 characters)
[What is literally visible in the image]
Why Each Section Is Where It Is
The hook goes first because both scanning humans and AI answer engines weight the opening most heavily. If the core answer is in paragraph three, a shopper has already left and an answer engine may never extract it.
Specifics go before persuasion because specifics are the persuasion for most considered purchases. Materials and dimensions do more selling than adjectives.
Bullets go after prose because they are a scanning aid, not the main argument. A block of bullets with no context above it reads like a spec sheet.
The objection handler goes last because it addresses the doubt that surfaces after someone is basically convinced. Raised too early, it plants a worry that was not there yet.
Filled Example 1: Apparel
SEO title: Merino Wool Base Layer — 220gsm, Odour-Resistant
Meta description: Warm enough for winter hikes, thin enough to layer. Machine washable merino that resists odour for days. Free shipping over $75.
Description:
Merino wool base layer, 220gsm — warm enough for a January hike, thin enough to layer under a shell without adding bulk. Naturally odour-resistant, so it survives three days of wear before it needs washing, which matters more than it sounds on a multi-day trip.
Flatlock seams sit flat under a pack strap instead of rubbing. Unlike synthetic base layers at this price, it does not hold smell after one wear, and unlike heavier merino, it is not too warm for shoulder-season use.
Bullets:
- Regulates temperature in cold and mild conditions alike
- Resists odour naturally — pack fewer layers on long trips
- Sits flat under pack straps thanks to flatlock seams
- Runs true to size; our 6'0" model wears a Medium
- Machine washable on cold, no special detergent needed
Objection handler: Merino has a reputation for shrinking — this is pre-shrunk and machine washable on cold, so it holds its fit.
Filled Example 2: Home Goods
SEO title: Ceramic Pour-Over Coffee Dripper — No Paper Filters
Meta description: Brews café-quality coffee in 4 minutes with a built-in filter cone. Hand-glazed, dishwasher safe. No paper filters to buy, ever.
Description:
A slow pour, done right. This hand-glazed ceramic dripper has a built-in filter cone, so it brews a full cup in about four minutes with no paper filters to buy or throw away.
Each piece is glazed by hand, which means slight variation in colour and finish between units. Unlike most handmade ceramics, it is fully dishwasher safe.
Bullets:
- Brews 1–2 cups in under 4 minutes
- Eliminates paper filters entirely — no ongoing cost
- Fits standard mugs and carafes up to 500ml
- Dishwasher safe despite the hand-glazed finish
- Each piece varies slightly; no two are identical
Objection handler: Metal filters can let sediment through — this cone's mesh is fine enough for a clean cup without the papery taste.
The Structure Is Reusable. The Words Are Not.
The whole point of a template is consistency of structure — so your catalog feels like one store wrote it — while every product's actual content stays genuinely different.
That distinction is what breaks down at scale. Fifty products in, it is tempting to start swapping the product name into the same sentences, and that is exactly when pages start competing with each other in search.
Wrivo AI applies this structure automatically to every product while generating genuinely distinct content per item, in three tone variations. Free plan, unlimited products.
Frequently asked questions
- Can I use the same template for every product in my store?
- Use the same structure, but never the same sentences. A consistent structure makes your catalog feel coherent and speeds up writing. Identical phrasing with only the product name swapped reads as filler and creates near-duplicate pages that compete with each other in search.
- What order should the sections go in?
- Hook first (what it is and who it's for), then specifics, then benefit bullets, then the objection-handler. Buyers scan top-down and AI answer engines weight the opening heavily, so the most important information cannot go last.
- Do I need all five fields for every product?
- SEO title, meta description, and on-page description are non-negotiable. Benefit bullets can be skipped on very simple, low-consideration products. Alt text is required on every image regardless — it is both an accessibility and an image-search issue.
